Frequently asked questions

Short, plain answers.

What is HUSHU?
HUSHU is a mobile app for reading and listening to the Quran, with the Arabic text, a Latin transliteration and a translation together. It also has Arabic recitation by 4 reciters, voiced translation in 5 languages, prayer times and a qibla compass. It shows no ads.
Is HUSHU free?
Access to the Quran is free: the Arabic text of all 114 surahs, the transliteration, 25 translation sources and the complete Arabic recitation cost nothing. The reflection library, all 99 Names, the 8 feelings and bookmarks are open to everyone too. The only paid part is the audio translation beyond Al-Fatiha and the first 30 verses of Al-Baqarah; that support keeps the Quran free and ad-free for everyone.
Are there ads in the app?
No. HUSHU has no ads, in the free part or the paid part. We decided from the start not to show ads where people read the Quran.
Which languages is the voiced translation in?
5 languages: Turkish (Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır), English (Talal Itani), German (Bubenheim and Elyas), Spanish (Muhammad Isa García) and French (Muhammad Hamidullah). As you listen, the verse being read is highlighted on screen.
Is it available on iPhone?
Yes. HUSHU is on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android, the same app on both. On iPhone it also works with CarPlay and Apple Watch.
Does it work offline?
For reading, yes: the Quran text and all 25 translation sources are stored on your device. Recitation and voiced translation stream from the internet, so listening needs a connection.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use the app without an account; signing in is optional.
How are prayer times calculated?
The method is chosen automatically from your location: Diyanet in Türkiye, ISNA in the US and Canada, Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, the Egyptian authority in Egypt, Karachi in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, and the Muslim World League (MWL) in most other countries.
